Frequently Asked Questions

(Terms & Definitions)

Q: What is BlackBook Mobile™?

BlackBook Mobile™ is a permission based cross-carrier mobile phone directory. It brings mobile phone users together to share information and address their directory needs and provides a secure back-up system that is accessible at any time, from any place in the world.

Q: Why was BlackBook Mobile™ created?

The cutting-edge technology developed by BlackBook Mobile™ is the next evolution in the mobile phone industry and is provided to consumers at no cost. For the first time, mobile phone users can create their own network of mobile phone numbers, maintain them in BlackBook’s secure database, and access them from anywhere, at any time.

Q: Why did you select the name “BlackBook Mobile™"?

Historically, a person’s private list of names and addresses has been kept in their “BlackBook.” Although the term suggests a certain amount of secrecy, it also connotes the private nature of such a list. BlackBook Mobile™ provides a private list of names and numbers of other mobile phone users that is secure and permission based. You are only on another’s list if you have given permission for your name and number to be there.

Q: How will BlackBook Mobile™ help me?

If you lose your telephone, change mobile phone carriers or your mobile phone is stolen, you will not lose your private list of contact names and mobile phone numbers. They are secured in BlackBook Mobile™’s database and can only be accessed by you anywhere or any time you replace your mobile phone. Regardless of whom your mobile phone carrier is you can access your private list via your mobile phone, your mobile phone’s browser or our website, www.blackbookmobile.com.

Q: How does BlackBook Mobile™ work?

By signing up at www.BlackBookmobile.com using just one simple step, you’re ready to begin building your private, permission-based mobile phone directory. Your list will be stored in BlackBook’s secure database. Through BlackBook Mobile™’s service, you can build your network of family, friends, and contacts that can be accessed easily at any time.

Q: How do I search for someone on BlackBook Mobile™?

You can search for people by typing in their fist and last names, then our system will match that name with your number to find individuals matching those names within your sphere of influence.

Q: How do I get contacts into my directory?

Contacts can be added manually online or imported from popular email applications such as Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail and several others. You can also find people you know online and request to exchange information with them, this process automatically adds you to each other’s directory if both members agree to the exchange.

Q: What are the advantages of including my contact's email and phone numbers?

Depending on your personal profile settings and your contact's settings, when a user requests information, either a text message or an email will be sent asking permission for that information. So, if one of your contacts has their preferences set to have all number requests routed to their email, but you do not have their email address filled out in your BlackBook, then that user will not be able to receive those information requests. And vice versa if a user has their settings set to have requests routed to their phones, but you do not have their phone numbers listed. Listing multiple methods of contact benefits you by having an alternate way to contact the person if their mobile or email address changes.

Q: Why should I include all profile information for my contacts?

Simply, so you and your contacts can share as much information with one another as possible. The more information you input into your BlackBook the more information we can securely backup for you, this will prevent important contact info from being lost if something happens to your mobile phone. Also, when you have as much information as possible entered in the profile of your contacts, you can elect to receive text alerts using the "Txt When" service. Txt When alerts can include a notification of a birthday, anniversary, relationship status, and various other types of alerts.

Q: If I choose to be private on all networks in my profile, will people still find me in a search?

No, once set to private, no one will be able to find your number through our site.

Q: How does BlackBook Mobile™ compare to its competitors?

While there are only a handful of companies building mobile phone directories, none offer the security, privacy or group features that make BlackBook so user-friendly, communal and special. Furthermore, we pride ourselves on not being a social network, but rather a tool for people to use to connect with their social network in a social setting instead of home alone staring at a computer screen.
